Mercury Recruit gives you full flexibility to adjust your plan as your hiring needs change — no contracts, no penalties, and no waiting for a renewal window. You can upgrade to unlock more job slots and AI-powered features at any point in your billing cycle, or downgrade if your team’s needs have scaled back. Changes take effect immediately, and billing is prorated so you only pay for what you use.

Upgrading your plan

When you upgrade — for example from Growth to Professional — you gain immediate access to all features in your new plan. New job slots, AI tools, and analytics become available the moment the upgrade is confirmed.

How to upgrade

  1. Click your account name in the top-right corner and select Billing.
  2. Select Change Plan.
  3. Choose the plan you want to move to and confirm.
  4. Enter or confirm your payment details if prompted.
  5. Your new plan activates instantly.

Proration on upgrades

Mercury Recruit prorates upgrades based on the number of days remaining in your current billing cycle. For example, if you’re on the Growth plan (49/user/month)andupgradetoProfessional(49/user/month) and upgrade to Professional (129/user/month) halfway through the month, you are charged for:
  • The unused portion of your original plan is credited back (half-month of Growth).
  • The remaining days of the current cycle are billed at the Professional rate.
  • From the next billing cycle onward, you’re charged the full Professional rate.
This calculation happens automatically — you’ll see a clear line-item breakdown on your invoice.
Upgrading near the start of a billing cycle gives you the most value from your proration credit. If you’re evaluating an upgrade, check your billing cycle start date under Billing → Current Plan.

Downgrading your plan

Downgrading reduces your plan tier at the end of your current billing cycle. Unlike upgrades, downgrades are not immediate — your current plan’s features remain active until the cycle ends, so you always get full value for what you’ve already paid.

How to downgrade

  1. Go to Billing → Change Plan.
  2. Select the lower tier plan you want to move to.
  3. Confirm the downgrade. You’ll see a summary of what changes on your next billing date.
  4. Your plan switches automatically at the end of your current cycle.

What happens to your data when you downgrade

Downgrading affects features and limits that exceed your new plan’s thresholds. Here’s what to expect in common scenarios:
ScenarioWhat happens
More than 5 active jobs on Growth (Growth allows 5, Professional allows 30)Jobs beyond the Growth limit of 5 are automatically paused at the cycle end. Paused jobs remain in your account and retain all candidate data — they are not deleted. You can reactivate them by archiving other jobs to stay within your slot limit, or by upgrading again.
Branded career page (Professional → Growth)Your career page reverts to the standard hosted design. Existing candidate applications submitted through the branded page are preserved.
AI features not available on GrowthFeatures like AI-Based Candidate Ranking, Automated Skill Assessments, and Candidate Fit Score become inaccessible. Previously generated scores and rankings remain visible in your candidate records as read-only data but are no longer updated.
AI Actions allowance reductionYour monthly AI Actions drop to 150 (Growth) at the start of your next billing cycle. Unused Actions from the Professional cycle do not carry over.
Automated workflows and offer approvalsActive workflows are disabled at the cycle end. Offers already in-progress through an approval chain are not affected — they continue to completion. New offers after the downgrade follow the manual process.
Review your active job count before your downgrade takes effect. Go to Jobs → Active and archive any roles you’re not actively hiring for to avoid unexpected pauses. Mercury Recruit sends you an email reminder 3 days before a scheduled downgrade takes effect.

Switching between Professional and Enterprise

Moves between Professional and Enterprise involve custom contract terms. To initiate a change in either direction, contact the sales team directly — they’ll handle the transition and ensure continuity for any custom configurations.

Switching between monthly and annual billing

You can switch from monthly to annual billing at any time. Switching to annual billing:
  • Locks in your current per-user rate for 12 months.
  • Charges the full annual amount upfront on the day you switch, minus a proration credit for the remainder of your current monthly cycle.
Switching from annual back to monthly billing takes effect at the end of your annual term. You cannot switch from annual to monthly mid-year without forfeiting the remainder of your prepaid period.
Annual billing is currently priced at the same effective monthly rate — 588/user/yearforGrowth,588/user/year for Growth, 1,548/user/year for Professional. The primary benefit is price stability and a single annual invoice rather than 12 separate charges.

Adding or removing users (seats)

Your per-user pricing means your bill scales with your team. To add a seat, invite a new team member from Settings → Team Members → Invite User. The new seat is prorated for the remainder of the current billing cycle. To remove a seat, deactivate the user from the same settings page — the seat cost is credited against your next invoice.

Cancelling your subscription

You can cancel your subscription at any time from Billing → Cancel Subscription. Cancellation takes effect at the end of your current billing cycle — you retain full access until that date. Mercury Recruit does not issue refunds for partial months on a monthly plan, or for unused months on an annual plan.

After cancellation

TimelineWhat happens
Until billing cycle endFull access to all plan features continues.
Day 1–30 after cycle endAccount enters read-only mode. You can log in, view all data, and export candidates, reports, and files.
After 30 daysAll account data is permanently and irreversibly deleted from Mercury Recruit’s systems.
Export all candidate data, reports, and custom career page content before the 30-day retention window closes. Go to Settings → Data Export to download a full account export in CSV or JSON format.
If you cancel and want to resubscribe within the 30-day window, navigate back to your account login — you’ll be prompted to reactivate with a payment method. All of your data will be restored immediately upon reactivation.

Frequently asked questions

No. There are no early termination fees or penalties for changing or cancelling your plan. You always have access through the end of your current paid billing period.
Paused jobs retain all of their data — candidate applications, pipeline stages, notes, and assessments are all preserved. You can unpause a job at any time by archiving another active job to free up a slot within your plan’s limit. If you upgrade back to Professional, all paused jobs can be reactivated without any data loss.
Upgrades are charged on a prorated basis, and downgrades take effect at the end of the billing cycle rather than immediately. Because of this, there is no scenario where you are double-charged. If you believe there is an error on your invoice, contact Mercury Recruit support from Settings → Support.
Enterprise pricing is custom and negotiated with the sales team. To start the conversation, visit mercury360.com/recruit/contact-us and select the Enterprise inquiry option. A member of the sales team will follow up to discuss your requirements, volume, and custom configuration needs.
Your branded assets — logo, colors, and custom copy — are saved in your account settings and are not deleted. If you upgrade back to Professional in the future, your branding configuration is restored automatically. While on Growth, your career page displays the standard Mercury Recruit hosted template.
